Legend & History

The village and the kund (spring) are named after Rishi Vashisht, one of the Sapta Rishis and the guru of Lord Rama. According to legend, after losing his sons, Rishi Vashisht came here for penance. The hot springs emerged by divine blessing, offering comfort and renewal to the sage. Since then, the kund has been considered sacred by locals and pilgrims alike.

Hot Springs

  • The water of Vashisht Kund is naturally hot due to geothermal activity and contains minerals believed to cure skin ailments and joint pains.
  • There are separate bathing areas for men and women, maintained by the temple trust, allowing devotees and visitors to bathe in the holy waters.
  • The steam rising from the springs, especially in winter, creates a magical sight against the snowy Himalayan backdrop.

Vashisht Temple

Next to the kund stands the ancient stone temple of Rishi Vashisht, over 4,000 years old. Built in classic Himachali style with stone and wood carvings, the temple is still an active place of worship.
